The TOC conference program on Tuesday, 11 October at the Marriott Hotel in Frankfurt will feature a new supply chain track.

The Frankfurt Book Fair and O’Reilly Media, Inc. are teaming up with international publishing standards organisation EDItEUR to offer a full-day Supply Chain track at this year’s Tools of Change for Publishing Frankfurt Conference on Tuesday, 11 October 2011.

The new track will be held in lieu of the International Supply Chain Meeting, which has been a staple of the Frankfurt Book Fair calendar for 32 years. EDItEUR will devise a full day of sessions, speakers and panels relevant to the international publishing supply chain that will be integrated into the overall TOC Frankfurt program.

“EDItEUR is delighted to be joining with Tools of Change Frankfurt”, said Executive Director Mark Bide. “Our stakeholder community brings a different perspective on the operational challenges facing the book and e-book supply chains, with a particular focus on supply chain efficiency and effectiveness”.

Now in its third year, TOC Frankfurt will once again connect the people, content and conversations along the cutting edge of global publishing and technology. “This year’s program will provide a unique focus on data, design, development and deployment along with a special emphasis on the change in Tools of Change”, said Kat Meyer, Co-Chair and Community Manager for Tools of Change. Confirmed speakers for the Supply Chain track include Peter Brantley (Internet Archive/Open Book Alliance), Philip Downer (Former CEO of Borders UK), John Ingram (Ingram), Bill McCoy (IDPF) and Jonathan Nowell (Nielsen Book).

Thomas Minkus, VP, Emerging Media & English-Language Markets for the Frankfurt Book Fair, added, “TOC Frankfurt offers publishers the practical know-how to meet the demands of their digital business while maximizing profitability. The EDItEUR track will provide attendees with new solutions for enhancing discoverability and for optimising the way their books reach readers”.

An early bird rate of €449 + 19% VAT is in effect until 29 July 2011. For additional details, please visit www.tocfrankfurt.com or contact Thomas Minkus at minkus@book-fair.com.

EDItEUR is the international group coordinating development of the standards infrastructure for electronic commerce in the book, e-book and serials sectors. Established in 1991, EDItEUR is a truly international organisation with 90 members from 17 countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa, United States and most of the European countries.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the biggest book and media fair in the world – with around 7,500 exhibitors from over 110 countries. It also organises the participation of German publishers at around 20 international book fairs. It maintains the most visited website worldwide for the publishing industry at www.book-fair.com and its directory of decision-makers in the book and media industries features around 31,000 contacts. The Frankfurt Book Fair is a subsidiary of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association.

O’Reilly Media spreads the knowledge of innovators through its books, online services, magazines, research, and conferences. Since 1978, O’Reilly has been a chronicler and catalyst of leading-edge development, homing in on the technology trends that really matter and galvanizing their adoption by amplifying “faint signals” from the alpha geeks who are creating the future. An active participant in the technology community, the company has a long history of advocacy, meme-making, and evangelism.

Frankfurt, 6.5.2010 – Following a successful inaugural event last year, Tools of Change for Publishing (TOC) Frankfurt will make its return to Europe on 5 October 2010, the eve of the Frankfurt Book Fair (6 – 10 October). “The challenges facing publishers as well as the opportunities before them have never been greater”, said Andrew Savikas, VP of Digital Initiatives for O’Reilly Media, Inc. “The first TOC Frankfurt offered unique international insight into what lies ahead for a publishing industry amid the global changes brought about by the transition to digital and mobile publishing, and we’re pleased to be teaming up with the Frankfurt Book Fair to bring TOC back to Frankfurt this year.”

Registration is now open at www.tocfrankfurt.com. An Early Bird rate of 429 euros + 19 per cent VAT is valid until 31 May 2010 (regular rate is 499 euros + 19 per cent VAT). In addition, TOC Frankfurt’s redesigned website will feature new and improved tools for staying informed about speaker and programme updates, including a news section. Attendees can once again utilise the site’s online community to establish and maintain contacts before and after the conference.

What’s in store for attendees of TOC Frankfurt 2010?

Co-organised by the Frankfurt Book Fair and O’Reilly Media, TOC Frankfurt will feature a full day of incisive keynotes and engaging panels and once again delve into the biggest issues facing an industry in flux. From changing media habits to user-generated content, transmedia storytelling to e-book pricing, TOC Frankfurt will cover the topics that are key to any company’s long-term digital strategy.

Attendees of TOC Frankfurt will come face to face with top publishing professionals, entrepreneurs and potential business partners who will deliver a broad range of practical solutions. “TOC Frankfurt will give publishing and technology professionals from all over the world the means to navigate and even help shape the changing media landscape,” said Thomas Minkus, VP Emerging Media & English Language Markets for the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Over 30 countries represented at TOC Frankfurt 2009

Last year’s Tools of Change Frankfurt drew around 350 professionals from over 30 countries including USA, Great Britain, China and Brazil. The event featured more than 20 high-quality keynotes and panel discussions. Speakers included trade publishing executives like Sara Lloyd, Digital Director of Pan Macmillan; novelist, blogger and technology activist Cory Doctorow; Lexcycle’s Neelan Choksi; along with representatives of Google Book Search, The Guardian, the Internet Archive, and many more.

TOC Frankfurt 2010 will once again feature some of the most pertinent and innovative voices from the front lines of the changing media landscape. Workshops and networking events will also offer a forum for engaging with top publishing and technology professionals from all over the world. Programme details will be available shortly at www.tocfrankfurt.com.

TOC Frankfurt will take place on 5 October 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a location convenient to the Fair.
