EPUB is moving rapidly into the next phase of its evolution: from text-only trade fiction to heavily linked and annotated non-fiction, and now into video, audio and interactivity. The next revision of EPUB is expected in early 2011, but the work to define what’s in and what’s out, and what the term “ebook” really means, is well underway. In this talk Liza Daly will describe the ongoing work of the next EPUB revision and what new features are already supported by ereaders and content producers.

The Speaker

ThreePress owner Liza Daly provides strategy and software for publishers, authors, and vendors and has a long history of successful work in both the web and publishing industries. In 2008, she developed Bookworm, one of the first open source EPUB readers, and in February of 2010 released Ibis Reader, the first HTML5 ebook platform. She is on the board of directors for the IDPF, the organization that develops and maintains the EPUB standard.
